ROCKING OVER 40 with a sisterhood
The way we think about aging can affect how we age. Studies have shown when people interact together and develop a sense of community, then everyone benefits. Moreover, three-quarters of American females say brands play a negative role in the perceptions of women over the age of 40 – and 80% say the media underestimates their intelligence (Fancy, 2018). No wonder we can feel so overwhelmed as we approach “mid-life.” But shouldn’t this be a period in our lives when we can revel in our maturity and wisdom?
When women over 40 connect, they often collaborate on finding a savvy approach to embarking on this chapter in their lives. This collaboration of women – Let’s call it the sisterhood, revolves around mutual support, resources, inspiration, and most importantly, humor. The sisterhood creates a safe space that makes it easier for them to be candid, original, and authentic. More than ever, we need to encourage each other to be our best selves and recognize that we are stronger when we come together. We trust that women who are empowered have the power to bring about positive change in the world.
Find your cheering squad! Here are some suggestions:

Take a class on something that interests you, even if it feels scary
Join a book club
Join a local community group: i.e., gardening club, theatre, city council meetings, or get politically active
Volunteer – volunteering is a great way to give back and make new friends
Say yes to friends when they invite you out – it’s easy to make an excuse but try getting out of your comfort zone.
And finally, remember, the oldest lady in the room is inevitably the most fascinating!
