5 TIPS ON CREATING A MORE ZEN YOU

Do you often feel like you can never catch up with your day?  Work, family and endless errands can make us feel like are wheels are constantly spinning and you are staying in the same spot?

Perhaps there is need to re-direct and to do less.  In other words, slow down and be in the now.  The to-do list will always be there, but are you so busy working about the next hour, day or year that you completely miss what is going on in front of you? Idea of a Zen state is synonymous with slowing down, being mindful and keeping calm.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have a day where   you can truly enjoy it exactly as it was meant to be?

Here are 5 tips for creating a more Zen you

  1. Practice your own kind of mindfulness. Try waking up in the morning (before anyone else) without looking at your phone and try to spend 10-15 minutes just being still.  Some people have a formal meditation practice, however don’t feel you have to jump into a formal practice, rather just sit in a quiet space and practice breathing deeply and slowly for a few minutes.  Then just listen to whatever sounds you hear around you.  This technique can calm your body and your mind assisting you to become centered to begin your day.

  2. Lighten your load. Identify the most important 2-3 things that needs to get done that day. Can you delegate some of your errands to others?  Can you set aside a few minutes during your day for some “me time” even 10 minutes for a cup of tea or to get up from your desk and stretch

  3. Let’s get moving in a new way. Try adopting more reflective practices such as yoga, tai chi, or simply go out and walk in nature.  For those urbanites look for a park and put on your headphones and zone out with some calming music.

  4. Practice a little gratitude . We all have something to be grateful for.  Look for simple things to be grateful for. Look for gratefulness in ordinary events, your personal attributes, or valued people in your life.  Seek simple pleasures and soon you will find you have more and more to be grateful for.  People who practice daily gratitude have fewer physical symptoms of illness, are more optimistic, have decreased anxiety and depression.

  5. Convey your Zen state to others. When you begin to slow down and display kindness to others, your tranquility will help everyone around you to relax.  Choose to be the person who remains calm when everyone else is rushing about, and set an example for others to relax as well.
